I have been doing this for 8 days now, and I have already missed my first post. Although I missed the post because of poor planning, it has been a very good learning experience. That is what this is supposed to be about too. Learning experiences for you and me.
I had a week that has been extremely busy. So much so, I am going in this morning to tie up some lose ends. It seems like work never stopped (which a good thing); however, when I look back at my time and productivity, I have periods of time that I do not know what I did. I am not talking about five minutes here and 10 minutes there. Large spans of time. I was very dismayed at this apparent lack of productivity in the face of being SO busy.
Being the good student that I can sometimes be, I sat down this morning to look at my day and schedule it. I was even looking back and my past weekly to dos that were not completed and seeing where I should put them next week. Then it dawned on me… How can I plan my week and get done all that I want if I don't know what it should look like. So this morning, I sat with the calendar and laid out my ideal week or ideal productivity schedule. The benefit is that I can now plan other activities based on what my most productive week should be.
When I look at my ideal productivity schedule, I wonder if it is realistic and will I honor it. The jury is still out on that. There are a couple of things that I do realize: it is guide for my day, it will change, it is not perfect, and I am moving despite the lack of perfection.
My questions for you are:
- Are you planning your day?
- Do you know what your most productive schedule is?
- Are you moving forward without perfection?
